Myke Landis

The first rider to tale the #1 plate away from Mike Kane in 1981 was another Myke, this time Myke Landis. Myke had the most advanced bike of the day. In 1979, he had a completely drilled out and machined DG mini with a full complement of custom aluminum components. At any given track, Myke had the most expensive bike there. Myke rode for The Bike Gallery and was the top rider in his class for years. When he didn't have a class, he'd regularly get bumped up a few ages and still dominate the race.

Myke's parents, Carol and Faye, are credited with creating the social atmosphere of Oregon BMX in the early years. Like everyone else of the day, they could be found on every track from Los Angeles to British Columbia and like everyone else of the day, they lived, slept, ate and dreamt BMX. Myke retired from racing in 1983.
