Mike Kane

Oregon's original ABA #1 rider in 1980 was Bob's Bike Shop's star rider, Mike Kane. Mike was a powerhouse and he had the bike control to match his extreme speed. From 1980 to 1982, nobody in Oregon matched his win streak in the amateur classes and his Pro wins when he turned Pro.

After Bob's, Mike rode for and managed the Pat's Schwinn team in the early 1980s. In his days at Bob's and Pat's, Mike helped refine the talent of such notables as Darrell Young, Ken Pliska, Craig Wiswell and Mike Henderson.

Mike was sidelined in 1982-1983 when he was involved in a violent high speed car accident (as a passenger) just a few
blocks from his home. He remained in a coma for weeks and spent months in rehabilitation learning how to speak
and walk again. He did return to BMX racing the following season, but was unable to regain
the timing and strength that had led to his early success.

These days Mike Kane is married and lives and works in Portland, Oregon.
