Ken Pliska Oregon's original #1 Cruiser racer, Ken Pliska, won the state points title in 1982, 1983 and 1984. Racing since the late 1970s, he raced for the dominate teams of Pat's Schwinn, The Bike Gallery and Factory Uni. His DG 24" and click-back start were mainstays throughout the state during the early 1980s. After dominating his class (17-21 Cruiser) during the 1984 season, Pliska left BMX as he decided to pursue other interests. He came back briefly in 1985 to win the Pacific Northwest Championships and take podium positions in the Lumberjack Nationals before hanging up his bikes and focusing on college and career. He went on to win regional championships in SOLO II Road racing and autocross during the late 1980s and early 1990s driving modified Ford Mustang V-8s and Ford T-Bird V-8s. In 1998, with his two sons at his side, he returned to the Oregon BMX scene as a parent, racer, and corporate sponsor. In his first season back in 1999, he reclaimed the number one plate that he had given up some 15 years earlier. These days he is one of the top riders in the country in the 36-40 Cruiser class and the 36 & Over Expert Class. Factory Sponsored by Supercross BMX, he can be found all over the country racing, riding and having a blast on his bikes. Ken Pliska is a successful Realtor with Coldwell Banker and lives, rides and works in Portland, Oregon with his three children. |
