John Youngburg

In the late 1970's, John Youngberg helped shape Oregon's BMX future. As a director of the Milwaukie, Oregon YMCA, he built the original Y-BMX track in Gladstone's Meldrum Bar Park and ran it until the park was developed into a soccer field in 1984. He also started Y-BMX Indoor at the Canby fairgrounds, the Northwest's first indoor BMX venue.

It was Y-BMX that first converted to ABA points, rules and regulations in 1979. Youngberg shifted the indoor program from Canby to McMinnville's fairgrounds in 1982.  To keep kids enthused about the sport, Youngberg even began his own Y-BMX Team that consisted of over two dozen riders ranging from Novice to Expert  that ran the yellow and black Y-BMX jerseys at the early race tracks.

Youngberg also hosted the annual year-end awards banquet from 1979-1984 with help from other area track operators.
