Darrell Young

To this very day, Darrell Young remains one of the smoothest riders ever to climb aboard any type of bicycle in any discipline of the sport of cycling.  Darrell began his racing career at the local Y-BMX track in Gladstone, Oregon in 1978 and before long was wearing the colors of the GT Support Team.  After a very impressive win over national champion, Richie Anderson at the 1980 Spring Nationals in Grass Valley, California, he earned a full Factory Ride with RRS as he became a dominate force on the national scene.

By 1983, Darrell was the star of the JMC Factory Team and had his own line of signature Frames, Forks and Bars.  Jim Melton, founder of JMC, was years ahead of his time with the innovations that were designed into the JMC frames and components.  Darrell made a few runs at the ABA National Number One amateur title, but back to back collarbone breaks would keep that title just out of reach.  He turned Pro in 1984 and began lighting up the Pro Circuit all over the world.  After JMC's demise in the mid 1980s, Darrell rode for The Bike Gallery and later for Kuwahara and SE Racing's Factory Teams.  He won the National #1 Pro Cruiser Title in 1992.

Darrell was inducted into the ABA Hall Of Fame in November of 2003.  Darrell can still be found on BMX tracks all across the country and is still highly competitive on the downhill mountain bike circuit.  Darrell Young Bars, Forks and Frames are among the most sought after items in the Vintage BMX bike collecting community.

Darrell Young works, rides and lives in Portland, Oregon and can be found cheering on his son, Tosh at many local tracks.
